In brief

Key points

  • Liraglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist.
  • Saxenda and Victoza are distinct daily injection products.
  • Their indications and product instructions are not interchangeable.

Saxenda and Victoza answer different questions

Saxenda is the liraglutide product for chronic weight management under defined criteria. Victoza is the liraglutide product for type 2 diabetes under its current monograph.

Sharing an ingredient and manufacturer does not establish the same prescription, dose framework or coverage rule.[1][2]

What the Canadian records show

Health Canada’s DPD listed Saxenda DIN 02437899 and Victoza DIN 02351064 as marketed when checked August 14, 2026. Database status is time-sensitive; verify again when access depends on it.[3][4]

Xultophy is a historical fixed-ratio liraglutide context

Xultophy combined insulin degludec with liraglutide; it was not a standalone liraglutide product. Health Canada’s DPD lists DIN 02474875 as Cancelled Post Market, with a status date of December 31, 2025, when checked August 14, 2026.

Cancelled Post Market describes the DIN lifecycle after sale was discontinued. It does not prove current pharmacy stock, and an old package or listing should not be treated as current access. The combination remains a micro-context here rather than a separate page.[5][6]

Ingredient knowledge is orientation, not a switch plan

Start with the treatment goal, then check the exact product monograph, cash price and coverage criteria. Do not transfer instructions from Saxenda to Victoza or vice versa.
